Susan Beverly

Susan Beverly is the Senior Director of Sustainability & Shared Impact at Abbott, where she is responsible for developing and advancing the company’s sustainability and shared value strategy globally.

Susan is a member of the leadership team that launched shared value at Abbott, which is a core tenet of the company’s approach to business development in new and emerging markets. Abbott was one of 57 companies named to Fortune Magazine’s 2018 Change the World list for its work to create a sustainable dairy supply in India.

Susan also leads the development and integration of Abbott’s sustainability strategy, which focuses on the intersection between the company’s long-term value creation and societal impact. She is responsible for Abbott’s global sustainability reporting, sustainability materiality and its link to enterprise risk management, and stakeholder engagement and other outreach efforts that help elevate Abbott’s reputation as a socially responsible organization.

Susan joined Abbott in 2001, and prior to working in Sustainability & Shared Impact, she set the vision and strategy for multi-stakeholder communications programs for Abbott’s late-stage investigational and marketed medicines internationally. Susan was also a member of Abbott’s Corporate Communications team. Before joining Abbott, Susan spent three years at Edelman Worldwide, a global public relations agency, where she managed reputation management and media relations programs for a number of Fortune 500 companies. Susan also worked as a legislative assistant in the communications office for Senator Edward M. Kennedy, United States Senate.

Susan serves on the board of directors of City Year Chicago and is a member of the YWCA Impact Investing Advisory Council. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and now lives in Chicago.
